On December 19, 2001, The Lord of the Rings was released, and nerd culture was forever changed.
If you’re like me, you associate these movies with the holidays and are ready to re-watch all three (in the extended version, obviously).
I’m rewatching scholarship Recently, I had an interesting idea.
While they were in the Mines of Moria, Gandalf was reading the last entry in the Book of Mazabul, the diary of Balin and his dwarven companions, and their adventures and deaths in the mines:
We can’t get out:
The end is coming soon.
We heard drums in the depths.
Here they come…
I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this scene as I thought about current fitness enthusiasts worried about the crowds coming in January:
Now, millions of people are ready to welcome “a new year, a new me.”
Many of you (perhaps including yourself) have decided that January 1st will be the day to get back to the gym or restart your exercise routine.
I think this is great!
Research shows that “starting over” or choosing a specific time milestone (such as January 1) may be beneficial for making changes.
But there’s a problem: “Going to the gym regularly” isn’t a decision.
Dozens of decisions must be made:
If you find the gym intimidating or anxiety-inducing, doing all of these in January is like playing a video game on Legendary difficulty:
The device you are trying to use might already be in use.
The parking situation can be a nightmare.
The course you want to attend might be full.
You will find any excuse as to why you can’t do something. If you’re intimidated by the gym or panicked because it’s crowded, your brain will beg you to stay home and never go to the gym.
I know right now, your brain is telling you “wait until January 1st…” and try again.
It doesn’t matter!
However! If you’re willing to take a few steps now, you’ll have a better chance of success in the future.
So here’s the challenge…
This is a great opportunity to join, no need NumberAdditional pressure on all humanityNumber:
This allows you to get rid of all the extra decisions:
Which gym, where to park, what time to go, etc.
I love Terry Crews’ advice on getting into the habit of going to the gym:
“Go to the gym, sit there, read a magazine, and then go home. And do it every day. Go to the gym, don’t even exercise. Just go.
Because the habit of going to the gym is more important than exercise. Because it doesn’t matter what you do.
You can have fun – but as long as you’re having fun, you’ll keep doing it.
Try to think of the next two weeks as a beta test and don’t have any expectations!
There is no exercise routine to follow.
You want to make sure you know where the device is and how it works
You are practicing your morning or evening exercise situation.
You don’t have to beat yourself up for not being completely consistent.
Instead, you now just focus on the hardest part of establishing a routine (getting in your car or walking to the gym and opening the door).
This means you can feel motivated to face January 1st. Never underestimate the power of momentum.
