RadioShackan American electronics retailer, went bankrupt in 2017. But it was taken over by El Salvador’s Unicomer Group in May 2023 and bounced back Cost of CES 2025.
RadioShack was a beloved brand in the US since 1921 and had more than 8,000 stores at its peak in 1999. Now its new owner promises to return and is showing 380 products at CES, the biggest tech trade show in Las Vegas this week.
RadioShack’s products cover sports, audio, tech, power and batteries, cables, home and office solutions and travel essentials. The Unicomer Group, once one of RadioShack’s largest and most successful franchises, is now the company’s proud owner. And with a positive vision for the future, the brand is reconnecting with its roots while embracing modern technology to meet the needs of today’s consumers.
When asked why the company acquired the brand, Rudy Siman, President of RadioShack, said in a message to GamesBeat, “We acquired the brand because, after running its operations for more than eight years in Latin America and the Caribbean, we now have a strong team. model and volume to start that you build on. Plus, we have a talented team doing things right. So expanding our business into new territories—especially the United States—makes sense for us.”
Regarding the main benefits that the company can provide, Siman said, “Our value proposition is based on providing the highest quality products in various categories at affordable prices. We have also established a brand in the market, giving customers several options under a reliable and quality brand. We are making these products available to consumers through variety.”
He said that in the first phase, the company will operate the stores through a third party. RadioShack wants to partner with retailers and companies that want to use the stores, he said.
As an old time, I vividly remember the Tandy TRS-80 computer, sold at RadioShack stores. It was the first computer I used as a journalist on the road. I had to use acoustic couplers that attached the computer to the telephone, and it made these weird noises when it connected to the newsroom so I could put on a story.
At CES, RadioShack will showcase its largest and most innovative selection, designed to meet today’s needs. Highlights include sports equipment, audio technology such as speakers, headphones and hearing aids, technology equipment, travel equipment, health and fitness, electronic solutions, and other essential equipment for daily use.

RadioShack filed for its first bankruptcy in 2015, still with 4,300 stores. It was brought back in 2017.
Unicomer Group acquired the RadioShack franchise in El Salvador in January 1998, expanding the business to more than 25 countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean. This successful acquisition allowed RadioShack to continue its legacy as a destination for shoppers.
