PickPad takes the hassle out of restaurant pickup


There was a time when baristas just had to write the customer’s name on the cup and call. They don’t always get the name right, but most of the time, it goes to the right person.

The prospect of getting takeout has become more difficult during the global pandemic dominated by Uber Eats and DoorDashes of the world. A hardware startup in Chicago PickPad aims to solve this problem with its own little device of the same name.

Product, which was shown at CES 2025it’s a small platform where coffee shops and restaurants place food and drinks when they’re ready to be picked up. The popular “smart pad” system connects directly to the restaurant’s POS, and enters customer names at the base. The startup is currently testing the technology with Chicago restaurants.

Founder and CEO Yaro Tsyhanenko told TechCrunch that the system will be offered as part of the hardware as a service package (HaaS), at a price of $9 to $19 per month per pad. This includes support, software, and anything else the restaurant needs to keep the system running smoothly. The price depends on the number of pads that the property takes and whether they want to pay annually or monthly.

At the moment, papers are still expensive to produce, at a price of $ 100, for Tsyhanenko. This should decrease slightly as PickPad begins to expand its manufacturing operations. The company is also looking into the creation of complete shelves that can fit easily into an Ikea bookcase, and is developing a cubbyhole machine to suit.
