Arsenal and Man City have dealt a major blow to their hopes of signing Dani Olmo during the January transfer window as Barcelona close in on signing the player for the second half of the 2024/25 season.
After failing to register the Euro 2024 winner, alongside Pau Victor, for La Liga; Barcelona took their case to the High Sports Council (CSD) in a last-ditch attempt to include the duo in their squad for the rest of the season.
According to the report from The world of sportsThe CSD decided to grant a precautionary measure to the Catalan club, allowing them to temporarily register Olmo and Victor in La Liga. Once this decision is made official, both players will be able to play for Hansi Flick as the German coach prepares his team to compete in the Supercopa de Espana.
Barcelona are hoping the duo could play in the final of the tournament if they get there, and the report says that is a possibility.
This will be a huge blow to Arsenal and Man City, who were hoping to tackle the La Liga giants’ misfortune, as this latest news means Olmo is likely to remain a Barca player at least beyond the January transfer window.
With Olmo potentially set to become a free agent in January, Arsenal and Man City have shown interest in the Spanish star.
Mikel Arteta is said to be a fan of the Barcelona star’s versatility and creativitywhich would be a huge help to the Gunners given the absence of Bukaya Saka over the coming weeks.
As for Man City, it was said that the club is the champion of the Premier League best position to sign Olmo due to Pep Guardiola’s connections with Barcelona, and the Euro 2024 winner is also a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.
