congress The Republicans were booster Monday after lawmakers gathered to certify President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in the White House.
“It went very well. It went smoothly. This is a manual transition of power. This is how democracy is supposed to operate,” said House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R- Ky., on Fox News Digital.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., praised both Republican and Democratic leaders who led the largely ceremonial event.
“It was very nice to see the certification go well. I thought Vice President Harris handled it well. It was also great to have JD Vance in the chamber, as a sitting senator at the time, but preparing to become- he’s vice president of the United States because, you know, it’s very historic,” he told reporters.

Like Comer, House GOP Policy Committee Chairman Kevin Hern, R-Okla., noted how smooth the process was.
“Everybody accepts the fact that President Trump won the Electoral College and the popular vote. So there’s really not much denial from the Democrats, that he didn’t have a mandate to do his agenda. And we will. Rest assured – let’s help him do that,” Hern told Fox News Digital.
Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., said Monday marked “a great day in American history.”
“We have no time to waste. We must get to work immediately, as soon as possible, as soon as humanly possible,” Mace said.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, emphasized the Republicans’ landslide victory in the November election, telling Fox News Digital, “It was a clear mandate from the voters, and now we have to get to work to fulfill that mandate “.
First-term Rep. Mike Haridolopos, R-Florida, said he was excited to start executing the GOP agenda now, commenting on the blizzard that shut down much of Washington, D.C., except for Capitol Hill, on Monday.
“I think we’re all excited to get started on the Republican trifecta,” he said. “I’m really excited and glad it’s behind us. It took a snow day to make it happen, but we’re definitely here and ready to go to work.”
Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., who is also beginning his first term in Congress, called the process “fascinating.”
“It was really great to see the process today. It was an honor to be there, and I was privileged to be a part of it,” Sheehy said. “And the blizzard, I think, is symbolic: winds of change are coming. We’re going to get this country going again.”
House and Senate lawmakers meet for joint session of Congress to certify Trump’s victory Vice President Kamala Harris, who was constitutionally obliged to preside over the proceedings.
The orderly process was a strong contrast on the scene in the House chamber four years ago, when rioters protesting the results of the 2020 election halted proceedings and forced lawmakers into hiding for several hours.
Unlike four years ago, when lawmakers were forced to finish certification hours after midnight, Monday’s event wrapped up in an hour.
No Democrats raised objections to Trump’s victory, unlike in 2016, which saw several progressives question his victory.

“I think this just shows that America is really ready for … a new page and a new beginning,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Florida, said of the certification. “You see, at least on the Republican side, we were pretty excited about the results of our election.”
And Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., another Florida lawmaker and Trump ally, told Fox News Digital: “We’re glad we didn’t have any issues with the certification, or challenge the certification. And everybody’s very glad to have Donald J. Trump and JD Vance in the White House, at the Naval Observatory, and we’re ready to make America great again.”
