Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak transmission of rumours linking him to the Gunners.
The Swedish international has recently been on fire in the Premier League, and it’s easy to see why attracting plenty of headlines linking him to Arsenal and other top clubs.
A few days ago, Isak has been described as a “key target” for Arsenal in the report from Football Insiderand it seems clear that Arteta is a big fan of his.
Isak looks set to fit in well in Arteta’s squad and the Spanish tactician will be keeping a close eye on him in tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the game, Arteta was asked about Isak’s threat in Newcastle’s attack and he made it clear that he views the former Real Sociedad player as a top talent.
Arsenal will probably try to sign the attacking duo again!
“He is a top player in top form who scores a lot of goals and we try to minimize the strength of the opposition,” Arteta was quoted as saying Metro.
“That’s a big part of the plan when we play any opponent.”
It’s easy to see Isak causing Arsenal big problems tonight, so Arteta will certainly need to pick an XI to deal with the 25-year-old.
It might be tempting to rotate for a cup game, but this is the semi-final now and the AFC is under increasing pressure to finally win the trophy after coming so close but missing out in the last few years.
Isak could end up being the signing that takes Arsenal there in the near future, but for now he is a huge threat that will have to be kept quiet if the Gunners are to reach Wembley.
