Another CES, another opportunity for tech companies to find a precious molten lead trebuchet in the finale of my honor. This year, it is EcoFlow which shows this beautiful sun hat that does more for the world, and your phone, than it does for your brand. Of course, if you are wearing the right outerwear, it will not look good, but its beauty is secondary to its function.
As the name suggests, the EcoFlow Power Hat has small solar panels on its edges that, when you go out, will help you. protect your portable devices. The mouth is divided, and each part contains a few cells of Monocrystalline Silicon with 24 percent.
Under the brim is a small plastic box with an LED light to show you that the hat is making a buck. Pull the attached rubber tabs and you’ll find a USB-A and USB-C port, allowing you to charge one or two devices at once.
The EcoFlow claims to output a whopping 5V/2.4A, so you can expect your phone or tablet to be topped up instead of doing anything life-saving. There’s no battery on board, naturally, so you’ll need a long cable to run your cap to any pocket where you keep your gear nearby.
The company says it’s sturdy enough, with each panel on a discrete panel you can fold it down to the size of a bag. It’s IP65-rated for ingress of water and dust, but avoid submerging it in water or putting it in the washing machine.
The EcoFlow Power Helmet retails for $129, plus or minus the cost of your honorarium.
