This Smart Bird Feeder Camera Can Now Detect Bees, Butterflies, and Blooming Flowers.

Bird Buddy, the smart bird feeder that lets you capture every terrifying moment of nature it’s happening in your backyard, it’s getting bigger and bigger a book of birds and squirrels. At CES 2025, Bird Buddy announced that they are expanding their product line under a new brand called Wonder. Along with the existing Bird Buddy device, which is still popular, Wonder is introducing two new products: Petal, a “biomorphic” camera that captures much of what is happening in the garden, and Wonder Blocks, a flexible system that allows you to create a kind of animal habitat wildlife that you hope to attract with the lens.

The Petal Camera takes its name from its appearance. It looks like a flower—I don’t think the butterflies in your garden would know otherwise. Its solar panel is shaped like a leaf, so the camera can stay powered without connecting a cable. One of the annoying things about the first Bird Buddy thief is that it often requires a chase from the birdhouse. This means that it is powered by the sun.

Wonder says Petal is the first “true camera” because of how much it detects. It’s built on top of the same Bird Buddy AI that detects animals, although it’s getting bigger to see than before. This camera uses AI to “see” naturally, so it can detect species as small as bees pollinating. It can tell you when a flower is about to open.

Another interesting feature of Petal’s camera is “Paul Sunshine,” which appears as Wonder’s Natural Intelligence moniker within the Bird Buddy app. This bot will identify who has flown in and out of your yard and whether the flowers have bloomed. It will also tell you how many bugs and birds it saw on a given day. It will also report the interest of passers-by – snails, ladybugs – and let you know if someone has been feeding on their favorite outdoor plant.

The Wonder Blocks are part of this new release from the makers of Bird Buddy. It’s a standard planter box, for all intents and purposes, and you can add any number of pieces like a butterfly feeder or a “bug hotel” to attract new guests. The plant also helps to place the Petal in a hidden place.

The new kits will be available for pre-order on Kickstarter in the spring. Wonder hasn’t announced pricing yet. It is not known if these devices will integrate with the Bird Buddy smart feeder.
