Many types of electric motors that work on their own, (not as dual an air purifierfor example,) are priced under $150, and most models on this list cost less than $100. A few small, well-considered budget options can run you under $50. The size of the unit, accessories, number of settings and heating element all contribute to the overall cost of the space heater.
There are no sizes or shapes for electric space heaters, and most of the heaters I’ve researched don’t specify the size of the space they cover, other than to list their capacity to heat a “small to medium” space or specify room types such as a bedroom or office. Space heaters can be displayed as a rug, floor or bath and many also come as tall but narrow “towers”, which may or may not be round, with a small footprint and therefore require little horizontal space.
Although this list contains only electric heaters, (as opposed to water or oil heating types,) there are several ways that electric heaters can be used to generate hot air.
Compulsory: Fan-forced heaters circulate air by drawing it in and passing it over a heating element, which is usually metal, expelling the hot air through the exhaust vents.
Infrared: Infrared bulbs convert electricity into radiant heat. This is the least expensive type of heater we’ve included here, but it’s not the most efficient.
Ceramics: Ceramic heaters use electricity to heat a ceramic plate inside the unit, which then emits radiant heat into the air, with or without the use of a fan.
