Artificial intelligence he can do amazing things these days. It’s over make videos from wordswrite a cover letter or thanks for writing and even help train driverless cars. But “amazing” isn’t the word I’d use to describe the AI features on Samsung’s 2025 TV lineup, shown on Cost of CES 2025.
In previous years Samsung used “AI” to describe its image processing system, designed to improve color, enhance detail and HDR work, and continues to do so this year. The new 2025 is a simple AI interface, similar to what it already offers in smartphones. I haven’t tried them yet but from what I’ve seen, I expect the mobile versions to be more useful.
AI to increase your TV viewing (and order food)
Something called “Click to Search” can detect what is being played on the computer and provide specific information, including identifying people, places or products. In one example Samsung showed, a session was “recognized” where it happened, the actors were, the clothes they wore and what TV shows and movies they watched.
At first glance it looks similar to Return to Search Part of the hand, which reviews CNET of many liked, but much less useful because it is limited to what is on TV. I have the same idea for a new AI food processing company. Called “Samsung Food,” it can copy recipes from TV shows and let you buy ingredients or order takeout from the TV — two things a phone can do better than a TV.
The Samsung TV remote, which I also like a lot for its simplicity and design, will have a dedicated AI button that will lead to shopping, content and content. I think it will also ask for some AI down the road, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed that yet.
Remember Bixby? Samsung’s voice assistant and answer to Amazon Alexa and Apple’s Siri is getting AI power in 2025 on TV with the help of LLM. The advantage, according to Samsung, is that the assistant can better understand the built-in commands, such as changing the channel and raising the volume at the same time.
Another “new” feature for the 2025: manual control. Contrary to what has failed miserably the company was founded 13 years agowhich relied on the camera and hand gestures, the 2025 version requires you to wear the Galaxy Watch while talking on TV. Use the middle finger, I won’t judge.
AI Karaoke is Live Translate for closed captions
Samsung’s two new TV screens look pretty good to me. Because I like to sing a good song, I want to try the new AI Karaoke feature on its TV. It uses your phone as a microphone and removes the voice from the existing music, leaving your voice with the music.
And what might be useful for people who read different languages, the company offers an AI Live Translate service on its TVs (such as already with phones). The TV can instantly translate closed captions for live broadcasts in up to seven languages.
My comments? None of the new AI features seem to be necessary to buy Samsung on another TV, except for smaller versions (or Karaoke, if you like Karaoke). Of course I’ll reserve the final verdict on the smart TV display, as well as the new graphics enhancements, for us to get these new Samsung TVs to test later this year.
