Ecobee’s Smart Thermostat Essential is feature-rich but affordable

Ecobee introduced a new smart thermostat at CES 2025 and it looks pretty cool. Smart Thermostat Essential is full of many things found and $250 premium modelonly with a price of $130.

There’s a full-color screen for switching, though it can also be done via the Ecobee mobile app. The app will send notifications about “preventing interruptions in heating and cooling” and will generate a monthly home energy report to monitor energy use. This is a modern thermostat, so customers can use smart assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit the aforementioned changes.

Ecobee says the Smart Thermostat Essential has software that automatically learns how long it takes to heat and cool the home, letting the device know how much energy to use to reach your desired temperature. The result? Cheap bill. The company claims this thermostat will pay for itself in just six months.

That cost can be increased by adding several of the company’s SmartSensors, which cost about $55 a pair. These sensors will teach the thermostat which rooms are used the most, so that it can control the temperature.

Ecobee promises that the thermostat is easy to install, but it still requires light wiring. Anyone familiar with smart thermostats should know how to drill. The Smart Thermostat Essential will be available at major retailers in March.
