A new addition to the Democratic side of a key Senate committee could strengthen it US support for Israel while the country’s war against the terrorist group Hamas continues in Gaza.
to dream Jacky Rosen, D-Nev.is assigned to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) in the new Congress, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., announced Thursday.
The Nevada Democrat, who she was re-elected in November by a narrow margin in the state that President-elect Donald Trump flipped, she is remarkably the third Jewish woman to ever serve in the US Senate. Rosen is also the co-chair and co-founder of the bipartisan Senate Task Force on Anti-Semitism along with Sen. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma.

During his time in federal office, Rosen has supported Israel’s right to self-defense, especially amid the ongoing war against Hamas.
“At a time when America’s adversaries seek to overturn our global leadership and destabilize our alliances, I join the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to be a strong voice supporting our allies and our fight for freedom, democracy and justice throughout the world.” Rosen said in a statement.
“I will continue to work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to strengthen U.S. global partnerships and counter threats from Iran, Russia, and China. As a member of the committee, I will also ensure U.S. commitment to support our democratic ally Israel remains unwavering and unconditional.”

Outgoing SFRC chairman Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., has been a longtime supporter of Israel, and his departure from the committee would normally leave the Democratic side somewhat off balance, as several other members have been more critical of the US ally.
Current Democratic committee members include Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., Chris Coons, D-Del., Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Tim Kaine, D-Va., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, Chris Van Hollen, D-Md. and Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.
Six of the nine current Democratic members recently voted in favor of resolutions aimed at blocking arms transfers to Israel. Incoming SFRC ranking members Shaheen, Merkley, Schatz, Van Hollen, Kaine and Murphy were among 19 Democrats who favored some or all three measures to make it to the Senate floor in November.

With the addition of Rosen, there could be greater potential for bipartisan action by the committee, particularly on Israel.
The committee will be chaired by Senator James Risch, Republicans for Idaho, in the new Congress.
