Whether any of them will use chatbots and assistants effectively or in new and exciting ways is hard to say. While the addition of AI may be enough to get the money needed to develop the device, it may not be enough to get people to buy the product. Chatbots are AI assistants they still haven’t provided enough of a case to justify people pushing more of their shirts. We are also in an AI-saturated place where technology is in everything. So, what makes your AI headphones unique?
“That’s the problem that most of these founders have; if AI is the differentiator, then what happens when everyone has it? Sag says. “Now it’s hard on the table.”
Wearables and devices designed to provide certain AI-driven tasks may be seen as the next step in the AI revolution, but so far what we’re getting isn’t pushing the boundaries.
“The reality is that we don’t need dedicated equipment for the type of products or events that they are showing,” says Ubrani. “Your phone can do most of these things.”
Over the course of a year, AI has gone from a stand-alone shopping experience to something akin to a slightly more vanilla version of the game.
There are success stories for AI hardware, of course, such as Meta-Ban Ray smart glasses, which have successfully integrated AI like one of many things in a device that offers more user experiences—taking photos, listening to music—than AI can do on its own. (This will be the year filled with smart glassesand CES is due to meet again.)
Meta, of course, is one of the biggest companies that has the resources to integrate AI into its services. Small producers may not have the financial strength to compete, but they are feeling the pressure to get in the game just the same.
“It’s going to be hard to see how small startups survive,” says Sag.
Sag says there are clear trends in the main tools and the number of other AI tools in the mix. Privacy eg. The Meta may have the most successful glasses out there right now, but the company’s platform is a barebones system that soaks up almost every user experience it can. Sag points to competitors like Even True or Looktech.AIwho make smart glasses that allow users to control privacy and not just send any information to the mother. It is said that startups like that can use a more secure method to diversify their products, giving users an alternative to large, mining platforms.
No matter how secure the technology is, people still want something that benefits them.
“The next version of this is like, well, what is AI doing for me right now other than telling me that I have AI?” Sag says. “Most AI doesn’t drive business, because it doesn’t change people’s lives.”
