Newcastle cruised to a fifth consecutive Premier League win after beating Spurs 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Saturday’s early encounter.
Goals from Anthony Gordon and the in-form Alexander Isak ensured Eddie Howe’s side took all three points in London as their push for a top-four place grows.
Despite taking an early lead through Dominic Solanke, Spurs slumped to a third defeat in four games and remain in the bottom half of the table, without a league win since December 15.
The Magpies, who have struggled against Manchester United and Aston Villa in recent weeks, drew with Chelsea but the Blues play later today.

Solanke got Ange Postecoglou’s side off to the perfect start when he brilliantly headed home Pedro Porro’s cross inside four minutes.

But the lead didn’t last long. Just two minutes later, with new England manager Thomas Tuchel watching from the stands, Gordon finished brilliantly from a tight angle to bring Newcastle back on level terms.
If the former was showing some clinical play going forward, there may have been a fair bit of luck surrounding Newcastle’s latter.
In the 37th minute, Jacob Murphy’s cross from the right caught the outstretched leg of Radu Dragusin and right into the path of Isak, who put the ball into the net for the seventh league game in a row.

In the end, it turned out to be the difference between the two sides. Despite a string of late chances from the hosts in the second half and twelve minutes of stoppage time at the end, Postecoglou’s side failed to capitalize on any of their chances and will be left rueing another frustrating afternoon.
For Howe and Newcastle, meanwhile, their good recent run continues.
