Cinemark Says You’re Picking a Bucket of Popcorn, For Freaks

The past few years have seen several blockbusters taking off buckets of popcorn to draw people to the theater. Others have it looked goodothers have been more sex than you (or theater chain) would think, but they seem to be doing their job, because Cinemark will allow theatergoers to use whatever they have as a bucket.

Sunday, January 19 will be National Popcorn Day, and the theater group is presenting the event with the first “Bring Your Own Bucketday. As long as the container is clean and no more than 400 ounces, you can get XL size popcorn for $5 at all Cinemark locations. That same day, it’s offering a 10% discount on all gift cards online, and anyone who follows the chain’s Instagram can enter a contest to win a large free popcorn by tagging three friends in the comments.

“National Popcorn Day is one of the best days of the year at Cinemark, and for popcorn lovers everywhere,” said Cinemark’s SVP David Haywood. “It’s always been good for movie theaters, even the popcorn ships have been a player worthy of the award. We’re happy that everyone will make this campaign and show what they’ve chosen while enjoying a great movie.”

Cinemark would very much like this will be something they do every year, as it encourages people to share their buckets on a BYOB day, and highlights several releases that will be playing in theaters that week, including Universal is Wolf Man. If you find you don’t have the right popcorn bucket on January 19, the chain has “helpfully” also displayed the buckets for sale at a discount. store.
