The favorites of the World Darts Championship are on their way to victory in the semi-finals

PDC World Darts Championship favorite Luke Littler reached his second consecutive final at the tournament by beating Stephen Bunting 6-1 in the final four.

Littler averaged 106.15 en route to winning the first four sets at London’s Alexandra Palace, including eight 180s and a 48% doubles conversion rate.

In an extremely spirited contest, the 17-year-old recorded 13 180s to help him hold off a spirited challenge from Bunting.

Just before the second semi-final, Van Gerwen produced a relatively dominant performance to secure his seventh semi-final win of the tournament by beating Chris Dobey 6-1.

Littler v. Bunting

Littler was rarely bothered by the eighth ranked tennis player in the world, Bunting, whose best result so far in the competition was entering the semifinals in 2021.

The 39-year-old had the darts to make it 4-2, but Littler’s most assured display of his campaign so far quickly extinguished the Liverpudlian’s faint hopes of a comeback.

After losing out to Luke Humphries in last year’s final, Littler appears to have peaked at the perfect time, with a final average of 105.48 his highest ever at the championships.

Van Gerwen is waiting for Littler

Three-time champion Van Gerwen ended a six-year wait to go all the way in the tournament, including 158 checkouts during the sixth set, and will face Littler on Friday (20:00 GMT).

“It’s going to be amazing… there were a lot of fantastic moments,” Van Gerwen said Sky Sports. The crowd loves it, the people at home love it – what more could you want? This is darts at the highest level and that’s what we want to do.

“We are still so far away (from winning). I still have to fight. (Friday) is another day, and the title is a long way off. That’s what you have to keep telling yourself.

“I don’t want to make a mistake. I want it to stay that way. A 99 average isn’t too bad. I am satisfied with the performance… I was efficient.

“When I had to do something, I did it at the right time and that’s what you have to do to win games. You always have ups and downs, but today I had the right mentality. Even when things didn’t go my way, I did good things at the right times.”

Littler vs. Van Gerwen

Littler beat Van Gerwen 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the Czech Darts Open in October, winning despite the Dutchman averaging 112.19 in the match.

That was the highest ever turnover average on the European Tour, while Littler recorded 110.57. Van Gerwen had an average of 99.75 at the championship, and Littler 102.13.
