Like every piece The equipment you wear on your body every day, the right exercise equipment is the best. The best way to promote exercise should be comfortable, attractive, and compatible with your lifestyle, including when and how you like to exercise. Do you ride a bike, row, or exercise? Do you run on the road for hours, or just need a reminder to stop every hour? Do you want to wear it on your wrist or on your finger or put it in your bra?
No matter what you’re looking for, there’s never been a better time to find a powerful, modern tool that can help you optimize your workout or jump-start your routine. We test fitness trackers every year while running, climbing, hiking, or just watching exercise videos on iPads at night, to bring you this.
Updated January 2025: We added Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED, Oura Ring 4, Xiaomi Smart Band 9, Garmin Lily 2 Active, Amazfit T-Rex 3, Amazfit Active, and Polar Vantage M3.

Fitness trackers vs. Smartwatches
Don’t see anything that’s exactly your look here? Check out our guide to Best Watches. Although these categories can be combined, the fitness indicators tend to be more weighty. I don’t care if a fitness professional can track everything on your phone than your fitness level and accuracy; if it can handle multiple tasks; and if it remains safe while performing several exercises.
Some exercisers have the ability to read email and control music, but screens are often small and too bright. However, battery life is generally better, which makes a difference, especially if you’re tracking your sleep over time. If, however, you really like the ability to access apps without taking out your phone, you may want to consider getting a smartwatch. (If you don’t want notifications at all, get a A ring of wisdom instead.)
Fixing Your Fitness Tracker
Having trouble with that new fitness device you just bought? Here are a few ways to fix what’s bothering you (or your device):
Make sure it fits. The visual sensors won’t work if your device is moving around your hand. You can replace many devices with new cables. Make sure it is securely an inch above your hand.
Wash it! I am frustrated by how many people tell me that their fitness trackers are giving them arm rashes. Wash with mild soap and water after sweating.
Get out from under the tree. Does your device use multiple satellite tracking systems to track your location when you start exercising outdoors? This is especially difficult to do if you are under power lines, trees, or (gulp) indoors.
Establish a routine. There’s nothing more frustrating than opening your tracker’s app and finding out the battery is dead before you go to bed last night. Update your program regularly. Check if your tracker is connected to your phone, and keep the chargers anywhere.
