When Samsung unveiled the world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED display On Thursday, Engadget’s Igor Bonifacic predicted that other retailers would soon follow suit. (After all, Samsung is also the biggest the seller of OLED gaming lighting panels.) Indeed, MSI followed up on the same day at The cost of CES 2025 with two popular displays: a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED display and a 27-inch QD-OLED one with a smooth 500Hz refresh rate.
First up: a 27-inch 4K QD-OLED, marketed perfectly as… MPG 272URX QD-OLED. (Sure, why not!) MSI is distinguishing its project as the first to include the panel DisplayPort 2.1awhich would provide a better combination of resolution and frame rates. Like the Samsung (G81SF), it has a 240Hz refresh rate and should look sharp and crisp at 166 PPI.
MSI says this panel “significantly reduces color distortion,” which should help improve the quality of sound often experienced with QD-OLED displays. As my friend Igor says, this could be the perfect all-rounder for gaming, work or anything else you can throw at it.
It supports NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technology, so smooth gameplay will never be a concern. The MPG 272URX QD-OLED also took home the CES 2025 Innovation Award.
The 27-inch QHD QD-OLED model also has an interesting and memorable name: MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50. (Yes!) MSI is marketing this monitor to “all the gamers out there,” probably because of its low resolution (2,560 x 1,440). It also uses DisplayPort 2.1a and (like Samsung’s) can have a pixel response time of 0.03ms gray to gray. It’s got VESA ClearMR 21000 certification, so stability shouldn’t be a problem when you’re enjoying the 500Hz refresh rate.
MSI has yet to share pricing or a release date for either model.
