Most Americans see the start of a new year as a fresh start and an opportunity to set goals to improve themselves over the next 12 months, and members of Congress are no exception.
Like millions of people in the United States, legislators are setting your own New Year’s resolutions, from professional to personal.
House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who is leaving the top committee post after a limited term, said his resolution was to use his new role as chairman emeritus “to be a strong voice on foreign policy and national security issues.”
On a more individual level, McCaul told Fox News Digital that he also set a New Year’s resolution to “exercise daily and spend my time on the most important things in life, like family. And take time to smell the roses”.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Florida, said her New Year’s resolution involved eating cleaner.
“My New Year’s resolution is to not eat anything with seed oils in it. It’s going to be almost impossible because they stick to everything,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, shared a broader goal for unity by 2025 with fellow House Republicans, after a 118th Congress marked by historic levels of discord and internal struggles.
“I’ve always said the Republican conference is one big family,” Fallon said. “We may be dysfunctional at times, but we’re still family, and my New Year’s resolution is that we can all sing along to the same sheet music enough times to make a difference for the American people.”
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., said, “My New Year’s resolution is to help Make America Healthy Again steering our nutrition policy toward promoting healthy food choices, starting with changes to the Food Stamp Program (SNAP).

On the Senate side, lawmakers shared resolutions to advance the GOP agenda.
“With a new year, a new Congress and a new president, I know we can take America back and usher in a new golden age. My 2025 resolutions are to help secure our southern border to make our families and communities safer; get back to reducing unnecessary spending and ensuring that Congress is a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars and passing pro-family tax reform that grows opportunity and prosperity in our nation.” Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., told Fox News Digital.

Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, said: “My New Year’s resolution is to be less tolerant of climate alarmism and hasten the demise of the administrative state.” The Republican will chair the energy committee of the new Congress.
Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., revealed that his resolution is to “confirm all of Trump’s nominees and secure our borders.”
