Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that Leandro Trossard can be a difficult character to work with in some ways, but that is part of what he likes about him as a player.
Trossard has performed well in his time at the Emirates Stadiumthough he’s often dealt with a bench role, as he tends to work well as a bit of a super-sub.
However, Arteta also made it clear how much he appreciates the Belgian national team playeras he spoke at the last press conference about how determined his character is.
The Spanish tactician admits that Trossard can be difficult because he is a bit ‘whiny’, be it in training or with referees during matches.
Arsenal LEADS in the race for a prolific Bundesliga striker!
However, he believes that one positive thing is that Trossard has a tendency to react harshly if he finds himself out of the team, as he likes to try to prove his manager wrong.
Asked about Trossard in his press conference ahead of the Brentford game, Arteta said: “He is a player that I value a lot, that we value a lot.
“He is very versatile, very competitive and always a huge goal threat.”
He added: “Leo is naturally a bit of a whiner. But I like that because he’s very competitive… in training, always busy with the referee’s decision, because he wants to win, and that’s what I like.
“When he’s not there, he’s not happy, but that’s what drives him, and when he gets on the field, he has that hunger, ‘I’ll show you.'”
Trossard scored 17 goals in all competitions for Arsenal last season and has four this season.
The 30-year-old is sure to add to that tally as the campaign progresses, as it’s clear that Arteta sees an important role for him in this squad.
