Chances are, you’ll start your microwave search by considering which size is right for you. A 2.2-cubic-foot, 1,250-watt microwave isn’t the best option for everyone.
If you’re in a small space or have power restrictions (my college dorm limited us to a measly 900 watts), then you’ll do well to look for models with less than 1,000 watts. You’ll also want to consider whether you want to look at over-the-counter microwaves, countertop microwaves or inverter microwaves.
Once you’ve settled on growth and strength, think about the jobs that mean the most to you. If you don’t eat popcorn but eat a lot of leftover pizza, make sure the model you choose has one slice. Microwaves come with many features, electrical settings and cooking programs already installed, but, apart from a few such as heating or heating, you will not find yourself using them much.
Narrow it down to size, power and performance, and all that’s left is to choose a color. Several of the models we tested come in different sizes, so if your microwave is going to be part of your kitchen, you’ll need to find the right model.
One last point: Don’t throw the book away right after you open the box. The microwave owner’s manual is a big a resource on how to use each recipe. Each manufacturer seemed to do things a little differently, and there were some helpful timing tips and explanations in every manual we came across during testing.
