Bill Haney: People Want Devin Vs. Garcia Rematch

Bill Haney is confident the rematch between Devin and Ryan Garcia will still happen despite dropping a lawsuit they have over his positive PED test for the banned substance Ostarine from their fight eight months ago on April 20.

The people decide

According to Bill, the people will decide if there will be a Devin vs. Garcia rematch, and they want to see it. So if they want to see it, the networks will make it possible. The lawsuit stands. They won’t give it up.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) seems interested in a rematch and often jokes that he wants to knock Haney down more with a left hook. The only thing that could stand in the way of another fight is if Devin fights someone else.

Bill thinks that Devin has proven that he is a world champion and that he can fight anyone he wants. However, he has not done so since the loss to Garcia, suggesting he is waiting for his one-year suspension to expire in April 2025, hoping to get a rematch.

Bill is coy about wanting the second fight to happen right away, but he’s easy to read. You can tell from his speech that a rematch against Garcia is the ONLY fight he and Devin want.

“Devin is a champion. Ryan Garcia didn’t. Oscar De La Hoya failed to make Ryan Garcia a champion,” said Bill Haney for Fight Hub TV when asked if the lawsuit they filed against Ryan would affect their ability to get a rematch.

“Devin wants to fight whoever people want to see, but he wants it to be on equal terms. We do it for the people. They’re the ones paying the bills, not the promoters,” Bill said of why they would want a rematch with Ryan.

“If the fans want to see the fight, then there’s a network that wants to put it on. The days of Oscar De La Hoya saying whatever he wants are over. He said there’s no need for a rematch, but he doesn’t listen to people. He’s the one who creates fake stories like people don’t call for it,” said Bill.

Garcia’s win overturned

The mistake is that Haney is sitting outside the ring with Ryan without having fought anyone, and that his dad Bill often talks about the positive test. If Bill believes that bringing this up is erasing the fans’ memory of Devin’s loss, he’s wasting his time.

The New York State Athletic Commission expunged Haney’s loss to Garcia, changing it to a no-contest because of his positive test for Ostarine. But Bill can’t erase the image of Ryan beating his son from fans’ memories by bringing up positive tests 24/7. That won’t work. He can’t whitewash what happened by constantly bringing it up in every interview and mentioning it on social media.

This makes Bill and Devin look like big losers as fans don’t believe Ryan won because of Ostarina. They just think Haney has a glass chin, can’t hit, and was never that good.

“The biggest thing is drug testing,” Bill said when asked if the weight decision will be the biggest thing that will have to be decided for the Devin-Ryan rematch. “He said he was crazy. So if you were crazy enough to do it the first time, then you’ll be crazy enough to do it the second time. It’s a sticker to enroll in the (drug testing) program.

“Putting something on the table where you would be A and we would be B would be an insult. They knew it was an insult,” Bill Haney said of Bob Arum’s offer to have Devin fight Teofimo Lopez.
