The best Playdate game of 2025

has received a lot of praise from Playdate owners, and it’s easy to understand why. The art is beautiful, the story is relatable and the music is just chilling. But Chima It’s also amazing, because it doesn’t feel of course like a game with its heavy story, it also doesn’t feel like a visual novel.

Chima it usually plays through text messages, and it’s real-time. You play from the perspective of Midori, who has decided not to go to college (unbeknownst to her parents) and instead opens a flower shop. While she is talking to her family, boyfriend, friends and other people, you read and choose her answers. There’s also a simple farming element – where you buy and plant crops, water and harvest them to make money – as well as a small arcade-style game.

Chima it’s the kind of thing you search multiple times a day until you reach the end, which can take weeks. There isn’t much in terms of gameplay, but there’s something very satisfying about how it uses a crank to shift the floor, moving from Midori’s room to the rooftop where her garden is. It might not be for everyone, but it’s worth a try if you like social sims.
