In a match filled with moments of great drama and skill, Jasprit BumrahIndia’s first fast bowler, provided not only a devastating ball but also an animated send-off for the young Australian debutant Konstas himself during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The incident occurred early on the fourth day of the Test when Bumrah, known for his accuracy and often subdued celebrations, hit an inswinger that smashed Konstas’ middle stump. Konstas, who showed incredible aggression against Bumrah during Australia’s first innings, was dismissed for just eight runs in the second essay.
The delivery was a masterclass in seam bowling; pitched at a good length, got sharply between Konstas’ bat and pads and clipped the top of middle stump. This dismissal was in stark contrast to Konstas’ first innings performance where he hit a blistering 60 off 65 balls, including two sixes off Bumrah, becoming the first in nearly four years to hit a six off an Indian in Test cricket.
After the ball broke through Konstas’s defence, Bumrah, typically restrained, exploded in celebration. He turned to the crowd, prompting them to roar in approval with a dramatic gesture, mimicking the eye-catching celebrations Konstas himself performed during the Indian innings. This send-off was seen as a direct response to Konstas’ third-day antics when he rallied the crowd while playing close to the boundary rope, a gesture Bumrah apparently did not forget.

Bumrah’s performance in this series has been stellar, showcasing his pivotal role in the Indian bowling attack. His ability to adapt his bowling to different conditions and opponents was on full display, especially against the young and fearless Konstas who has been making waves since his Test debut.
