Salah ‘focused on the team’ despite growing uncertainty over Liverpool’s future

Mohamed Salah insists his sole focus is on Liverpool winning the Premier League title despite his future at Anfield remaining uncertain.

Salah scored and assisted two more in a 5-0 win over West Ham on Sunday as Arne Slott’s side ran riot at the London Stadium.

Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and substitute Diogo Jota also hit the net as Liverpool finished the year in pole position for the league title.

But one of the main topics of conversation from Anfield in recent weeks has been the futures of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil van Dijk, who are out of contract this summer.

All three are yet to agree to an extension, but the Reds’ top scorer this term says his top priority is making sure his side win silverware this term.

“All I’m thinking about is I want Liverpool to win the league,” Salah told Sky Sports after the game. “I just want to be a part of it.

“That’s the only thing I’ve focused on since the start of the season. That’s why I will do my best for the team to win the trophy.

“We are in the right direction, but of course there are several other teams that are trying to catch up with us. We just need to stay focused, work hard and get going again.”

Salah remained tight-lipped about the contract situation: “We are far from that. I don’t want to put anything in the media.

“I’m focused on the team and I hope we win the Premier League.”

Slot also tried to keep the press quiet about off-field matters.

The Liverpool manager told Sky Sports: “People are talking about it even more (in January). Not only about these three (Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold) but also about other players because it is a month in which players can also make a transfer.

“So this coming month won’t just be about the three, but about the ones we brought in and the ones who might leave as well.”

Slot did single out Alexander-Arnold for praise amid growing speculation that the 26-year-old wants to leave Liverpool in the summer, with Real Madrid believed to be a likely destination.

“He (Alexander-Arnold) is playing really well. He scored a great goal, and the way he celebrated the goal probably tells you enough.

“So I don’t think I need to say much more about it. I’m really happy with Trent as I am with Mo (Salah) and Virgil (van Dijk). So it makes no difference to me.

“For the outside world, maybe there’s a little more going on in the media. But right now I’m happy with all three.

Liverpool are next in action when they host fierce rivals Manchester United on January 5.
