Pep Guardiola admitted that relief, rather than delight, was the overriding emotion following Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday.
Savinho and Erling Haaland hit the back of the net at the King Power Stadium as Guardiola’s side secured a much-needed win – just their second in their last 14 games in all competitions.
But it wasn’t easy for City, who were celebrating Guardiola’s 500th game in charge. The Foxes produced a spirited performance, particularly in the second half, and will rue a few missed chances.

For the visitors, it lessens the weight of a turbulent period for the club in recent weeks.
On the result, Guardiola told Sky Sports: “We needed it. All of us.
“It wasn’t an ideal performance, but at this point it’s almost impossible to accept. We hope that the victories will give us a better mood.
“It was tight. Twenty minutes into the second half they (Leicester) were much, much better. We don’t have enough energy to last 90 minutes.
“But hopefully the result will help us bounce back in the New Year.”
The City boss added that it was difficult to be too happy about the win given recent results.
“It’s not pleasant, it’s just a relief at the moment,” Guardiola said. “That’s the right word to express the feeling we have.”
