You had an idea when DC gave a Batman villain movie release date weeks before the actual Batman movie something changes. And now it has. Batman Part IIdirected by Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson, has been pushed back another year. It is now expected to be released on October 1, 2027. It is already scheduled for release October 2, 2026 and October 2025.
Release date news, reported by Deadlinethey also came up with a few non-DC stories. The date of October 2026 will now have an upcoming project from director Alejandro González Iñárritu and star Tom Cruise, while 2025 will see a number of color films in transition. Another Pattinson film, Mickey 17It’s going a few weeks until March 7 when the Ryan Coogler / Michael B. Jordan vampire movie Sinners returns on April 18.
But Batman Part II though, the writing was kind of on the wall for a while. Rumors of the delay surfaced recently when DC Studios president James Gunn he had not seen the last draft from Reeves followed by Gunn and team dating Clayfacewritten by Mike Flanagan, to be released on September 11, 2026, weeks before The Batman. When io9 asked Gunn about the time, he seemed unconcerned because Clayface and Reeves’ Batman are in different places. But, now, his film has a Batmanless way ahead as the audience has to wait a long time for Batman to return.
So what is happening Batman Part II? Well, we’ve heard that Reeves is very protective and careful with the script and doesn’t want to move on until it’s something he’s happy with. Wanting to make things better, with James Gunn and Peter Safran coming to take over DC, which will include Batman, will not be easy. Originally, the plan was Reeves’ Batman to be part of the Elseworlds saga—removed from the middle of the DC Universe—and the new DC Batman is coming. Brave and Brave.
But this week, the film’s director, Andy Muschietti, said that he may be making another movie first as things have been delayed. The two are rumored to be in a spin-off that could see Pattinson’s Batman join the DC Universe and, well, things get messy. This is speculation and unproven but, it is out there. And why wouldn’t it be? I am Batman Part II now it may take five years to hit theaters, will DC and Warner Bros. Do they really want to go over a decade without Batman in their movies? Maybe not.
Meanwhile, Reeves and the team have bought themselves another year to make sure they’re giving us the best Bat sequel ever. The Dark Knight. And we certainly hope it is. Because with each year’s delay, joy and hope diminish. At least we did Penguin.
