The Toffees ‘have to wait’ due to injuries to top scorers Ndiaye and McNeil

Everton’s joint-top scorers Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil could miss out when the Toffees try to extend their unbeaten run to five matches at home to improve the form of Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday (1500 GMT).

Midfielders Ndiaye and McNeil have each scored three of Everton’s 15 Premier League goals this season, with the Englishman also providing four assists.

“It’s still a bit of a touch-and-go scenario, with these games coming thick and fast – so maybe, at this point, whether Dwight can make it,” Everton manager Sean Dyche said.

“We will have to wait and see. We just have to make sure of Illi (Ndiaye). I took him off last game just because of a minor calf strain – we’ll wait and see how that resolves.”

Man City vs Everton: Ndiaye goal

Senegal international Ndiaye scored a memorable first-half equalizer in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City before being withdrawn nine minutes from time.

Visiting goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also saved City’s top scorer Erling Haaland’s penalty after the break as Everton secured back-to-back draws against fourth-placed Arsenal, second-placed Chelsea and the reigning champions.

“It would be harsh on them, so we take the point,” Dyche said when asked if Everton could have won, adding that he was not “surprised or relieved” by his players’ performance.

“I believe in them too. It just lacked a bit of intention. Two defeats in 13 – I know there have been a lot of draws – but that’s not easy to do in the Premier League.”

Everton vs Forest

Forest’s 1-0 home win against Tottenham later on Thursday means they move into fourth place and on a run of four consecutive wins.

A win would lift Nuno Espirito Santo’s side into second place, although Forest lost both meetings with Everton last season without scoring.

Forest’s only win in their last nine meetings came at Everton in 1999, and a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in August 2022 was their best result since then.

Everton, in 15th, are three points clear of third-bottom Leicester City with a game in hand and five in hand on Manchester United, who are just above them.
