Interestingly, almost all of the third-party integrations that the company has implemented – DoorDash, Uber, Midjourney, and others – are being phased out, so the services are not working. (Not that they’ve ever worked before.) The scroll wheel is minimal, and the visual controls are welcome. For example, you can press and hold the talk button and scroll up or down to change the volume.
There have been many R1 updates over the years, but three stand out: Beta Rabbit, LAM Playground, and Teach Mode.
Beta Rabbit uses a wide variety of languages to enable a wide range of conversations when you ask R1 anything. I didn’t find it all that interesting GPT-4o or Gemini Live. I asked her how we know anything about the early years of the universe, and she began to read a passage. At one point, it mentioned the “cosmic microwave background” when I interrupted it and asked how this was known. R1 then started singing, “Searching for the microwave base,” “Searching for this,” and “Searching for that.” After five of these, it finally started reading the CMB response.
LAM Playground is a fun feature available on the Rabbit Internet. These “big examples” run on a browser you can interact with, and their main purpose is to show how Rabbit can work on your behalf. (You know, because it couldn’t do it at launch!) Quickly log in and the Rabbit bots will do it. For example, you can request to find a product and add it to your Amazon cart, although you will need to log into Amazon through such a browser, which seems like a big privacy risk.
I asked her to do a Google search for “best office chair” and it took me to the seller’s website. It took a very long time to do this, and it listed “best office chair reviews 2023.” (Is R1 in a different timeline?) But it still went to the first result (which is mine office chair guidethank you very much), and it took me to the product page Ergonomic Chair Pro branchmy highest opinion.
Where LAM Playground lets you see how it all works, Training Mode lets you take action. It’s still in beta (I’d say R1 is still in beta). After a bit of testing, I kept getting an error that made the feature unusable. Finally, it worked one day. I made a tutorial, then I do the steps inside the real browser – the R1 prices cut everywhere. Then, when I told my R1 device to do something, it took my actions.
