Mykhail Mudryk’s mother ‘says no one will tarnish’ the Chelsea winger’s reputation

Mykhail Mudryk’s mother has reportedly said the Chelsea winger is being targeted by people who want to “tarnish” his “reputation”.

The striker, who said he was in “total shock” following his provisional suspension by the Football Association (FA) following the announcement on December 17 that he had given an “adverse result in a routine urine test”, was reportedly supported by Inna Mudryk in a message on Instagram .

“Misha worked all his life to become a football player,” Stand quoted Inna Mudryk as telling her followers. “No one will ever be able to change that, no matter how hard they try to tarnish Misha’s reputation.”

Mykhailo Mudryk temporary suspension

FA guidelines allow players to be provisionally suspended from football after testing positive, with penalties for deliberate use of banned substances ranging up to four years under FIFA rules.

On the day of the announcement, Chelsea confirmed they were aware of the test and were working with Mudryk to determine what caused the finding.

“This was a complete shock as I have never knowingly used banned substances or broken the rules and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened,” Mudryk wrote on Instagram at the time.

“I know I didn’t do anything wrong and I hope to be back on the field soon.”

Mudryk Chelsea statistics

Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since November 28 and missed five consecutive games before the news broke, with Blues manager Enzo Maresca explaining that the Ukraine international was ill.

The 23-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth up to £89m in 2023.

He scored seven times in 41 appearances in 2023/24, while this season he has three goals and five appearances in 15 games, although none of his direct goals have been in the Premier League.

Chelsea have drawn 0-0 against Everton and lost 2-1 at home to Fulham since Mudryk’s temporary suspension began.

Maresca’s side are third in the table and seven points behind leaders Liverpool ahead of a trip to second-placed Ipswich Town on Monday (19.45 GMT).
