Leeds United want to sign Uzbekistani defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
According to Top marketclubs like Newcastle, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur want a 20-year-old centre-back too, but Leeds now appear to have stolen a step against their rivals and made an official bid.
RC Lens are looking to raise €44m in January to balance their books and are ready to sell the 20-year-old defender next month. Jorge Mendes is expected to facilitate the transfer.
It will be interesting to see if Leeds manage to get the job over the line. They are pushing for promotion to the Premier League and Khusanov could be a useful option for them during the second part of the campaign. He impressed with his performances in French football and has the physical and technical characteristics to perform well in the championship as well.
Meanwhile, Newcastle also need defensive reinforcements and look vulnerable at the back this season. The 20-year-old would be a long-term investment for them and he could help them tighten up behind.
Manchester City and Tottenham will also be exciting destinations for the player.
Tottenham lack depth in their defensive unit, especially with the likes of Cristiano Romero and Micky van de Ven sidelined with injuries.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League’s leading clubs decide to follow up their interest with a bid to sign the player in January.
While there is no doubt that Leeds could be an attractive destination for the player, he could be tempted to move to the Premier League should a top club come calling.
It will be interesting to see if RC Lens are willing to sell him for 20 million euros. Whoever ends up signing him for that much money will end up getting a good bargain. The 20-year-old could develop into a star with the right guidance and playing time.
