World chess number one Magnus Carlsen has received support from the world’s most popular YouTube creator after pulling out of a tournament due to organizers’ demands that he not wear jeans.
Norway’s Carlsen was defending his FIDE World Rapid and Rapid Chess Championship titles in New York when he was penalized for his clothing and told to change immediately.
The 34-year-old offered to change his trousers for the next day but backed out after the decision, adding that he was “too old at this point to care too much” about the appeal.

America’s MrBeast – whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson – was among the many Carlsen fans who supported the post.
“Savage,” replied the social media sensation, who has more than 339 million subscribers on YouTube and is the third most followed of all TikTok accounts, with nearly 107 million followers on the platform.
The official account of Chess.com, which is the largest online chess community and has more than 619,000 followers on X, responded with heart-shaped emojis, while heavily followed partner account Anichess called Carlsen “very humble, very thoughtful.”
In a statement, FIDE said the five-time world chess champion was fined £159 and stressed its rules were applied “impartially”.
