Rishabh Pant he is known for his unconventional batting style and extraordinary technique. However, the unique style of the young goalkeeper striker is not always effective for the team. Something similar happened on Day 3 of the ongoing 4th Test Granica-Gavaskar Trophy.
Pant continued India’s innings on Day 3 of the 4th Test with Ravindra Jadeja. The duo looked set for a solid partnership and added 30 runs to the Indian innings. Just when the Indian innings seemed to be making a comeback, Pant in his famous style decided to shoot in the circle against Scott Boland moving away from the lock. Pant, who failed when attempting the same shot on the previous delivery, failed again on the fourth delivery of Boland’s over. The keeper’s shot played the ball to the deep third man and simply caught him Nathan Lyon. The Indian team looked vulnerable during the time of Pant’s dismissal with only 191 runs on board for the loss of 6 wickets, trailing Australia’s total of 283 runs.
The dismissal of the 27-year-old proved disheartening for Jadeja on the other hand. The all-rounder left soon after Pant’s sacking and failed to build a new partnership with him Nitish Reddy. Jadeja departed after scoring 17 runs off 51 balls. It was a tough series for Pant with the bat. The goalkeeper’s dynamic kicking only scored points 124 runs in the four Test matches of the series so far with an average of 20.66.
Pant’s dismissal was a bone of contention for Indian fans and analysts alike. The timing of his dismissal further fueled reactions from the cricketing community. A notable reaction came from the former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar who while commenting for ABC radio with Harsha Bhogle called Pant’s shot selection ‘Stupid’. He further criticized the 27-year-old for throwing away his wicket at a crucial moment.
Rishabh Pant plays in the team because of chamchagiri, sympathy quota and old heroes.
It is not technically correct and it will be better if India gets rid of it sooner.
Being exposed day after day.
This is the shot he tried to play before the dismissal. #INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/LYNasP5e3A

Rishabh Pant started taking chances and fell to Boland, again failing to deliver. His inconsistency leaves India without vital middle-order support in the BGT… a costly miss at a crucial time, putting India in deep trouble.

Sunil Gavaskar attacked Rishabh Pant like he never attacked anyone else. He schooled Pant like a school principal and Pant deserves all the credit, Pant surely takes a place in the Indian team even with his strong PR games!!pic.twitter.com/QnTZ66egWn

The Champions Trophy squad is round the corner and if a parchi player like Rishabh Pant gets picked over wicketkeepers like Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan who deserves to be in the squad on merit, then it will be merit killing in broad daylight!!@imAagarkar @GautamGambhir all eyes on you. pic.twitter.com/clHQyxMrOg

Wasn’t Rishabh Pant supposed to be our savior and X-factor in Tests, as claimed by his PR? Instead of playing responsibly, he goes for reckless shots. works #RishabhPant do you honestly want us to win this BGT? I doubt it.#INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/sfbfrmwzn8

Lappebaz Rishabh Pants in BGT 2024-25:
37 (78)
1(4)
21 (35)
28 (31)
9 (12)
28 (37)He was getting plaudits from the Endians for his haphazard performance against Bangladesh. He should have scored at least 250-350 runs in this series but he became a burden for the Indian team.#INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/wc74DvArwB

Rishabh Pants in BGT 2024 – 37, 1, 21, 28, 9, 28
He failed to score 40 runs once in the 6 innings he played, loses catches as a wicketkeeper, and does not score a single run. Even today, the goalpost was thrown with a very irresponsible shot.
Dhruv Jurel is a better goalkeeper with more temperament as…

Today at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), when Rishabh Pant came out to bat, there was a special sense of excitement in the air. I traveled all the way to Australia just to watch this match and the expectations for Pant were sky high. The team was in a difficult situation, and we all… pic.twitter.com/vyOlW3mJfl
