On the second day of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Australian captain Pat Cummins he performed a stunning spell, showing his class and precision. He rejected KL Rahulone of India’s reliable batsmen, with an off-the-cuff performance that highlighted the bowler’s tactical brilliance. Cummins had already picked up the first wicket and was relentless in his quest for another breakthrough. Rahul, who scored 24 off 42 balls, showed some resilience but was undone by Cummins’ masterclass.
Cummins’ dismissal delivery to Rahul was the epitome of bowling excellence. The ball was angled in, pitched at a good length on middle and off, and moved sharply back to hit the top of the off stump. The Australian captain set Rahul up nicely during the spell, targeting his pads with deliveries that hinted at lbw. This consistent questioning planted doubt in Rahul’s mind, subtly affecting his positioning.
As a result, his front pad was slightly more towards the leg, leaving a narrow opening for the ball to slip through. The delivery itself was almost perfect and left Rahul no chance. It was a textbook example of how planning, precision and execution come together to produce a match-defining moment.

Australia resumed Day 2 at 311/6s Steve Smith leading their collection. Smith showed tremendous patience, turning his overnight score of 68 into a brilliant 140, combining with Cummins for a vital 100-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Cummins impressed with a sharp 49 before falling to Ravindra Jadeja. The lower order added crucial runs as Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon they put up some resistance, but especially the Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah (4/99) and Jadeja (3/78), effectively concluded the innings. Australia posted a staggering 474, leaving India with a challenging task to counter their dominance.
Chasing Australia’s imposing total, India started their reply cautiously. However, the skipper Rohit Sharma fell cheaply for 3, miscuing a pull from Cummins. Rahul tried to stabilize the innings with a calm 24 but was also dismissed by Cummins, leaving India at 51/2. Yashasvi Jaiswal he promised with an unbeaten 29, while Virat Kohli he was left on the edge at 1. India are currently over 400 runs behind and Australia’s bowlers, led by Cummins’ fiery spell, are maintaining a tight grip on the match.
