The first day of the first Test in between South Africa and Pakistan in Centurion produced a stunning contest as the hosts finished firmly in command. Pakistan, who opted to bat first, struggled to cope with South Africa’s disciplined bowling, being bowled out for 211 in their first innings. Dan Paterson he gave a phenomenal performance, taking five wickets, while Corbin Bosch provided excellent support with four crowns. South Africa responded with confidence, ending the day on 82/3, s Aiden Markram anchoring the innings from an unbeaten 47. The hosts trail by 129 runs and are in a commanding position heading into Day 2.
Paterson was the star with the ball, bowling a sensational spell to claim 5/61 in 16 overs. Using the bounce and connection movements offered by Centurion’s pitch, Paterson dismantled Pakistan’s top and middle order. He replaced the captain Shan Masoodalways reliable Mohammad Rizwanand other batsmen with sharp, disciplined bowling. Pakistan never found the momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Bosch’s influential contribution (4/63) provided critical support, discarding key players such as Kamran Ghulam and Aamer Jamal. Together, the duo ensured that Pakistan lacked the partnerships needed for a meaningful total.
Ghulam was the lone warrior in Pakistan’s batting line-up, showing resilience with a fluent 54 off 71 balls. Coming to the crease with Pakistan struggling at 40/2, Ghulam played a composed but attacking knock, hitting eight boundaries and a six. He combined with Rizwan in a crucial 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket, countering South Africa’s relentless attack. However, Paterson broke his resistance just before tea, triggering a collapse of the lower order. While Jamal chipped in with a brisk 28 off 27 balls, Pakistan’s innings faltered as they lost their last five wickets for just 74 runs, finishing on 211 in 57.3 overs.
In response, South Africa had a mixed start, losing Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton early to Khurram Shahzad‘s disciplined bowling. At 24/2, the pressure was on Markram, who rose to the occasion with a safe and unbeaten 47. Markram bowled with authority, hitting nine classy boundaries and providing stability amid the fall of wickets. Tristan StubbsThe dismissal of Mohammad Abbas for 9 added to South Africa’s early woes, but Markram found a steady partner in Temba Bavumawho remained unbeaten at 4. By the stumps, the duo took South Africa to 82/3setting the platform for the hosts to take control on day two.

I said it before. I watched a WP workout once. Dane Paterson was the most valuable player on the field. He did every sprint to the end, performed every exercise intensely, forced others to compete with him. The type of person you want on your side

Corbin Bosch was at RR 3 years ago and was a guy who chased excellence.
He has started well with the ball but it is worth remembering that he is averaging 40 plus with the bat in FC 🏏. #SAvPAK pic.twitter.com/3HF9jax8ie— Ashwin 🇮🇳 (@ashwinravi99) December 26, 2024

Corbin Bosch throws an effortless 145 KMPH on his debut with such nice action and a capable batsman at 7th. A big prospect for the Proteas.

Highlights: Corbin Bosch with a wicket off the first ball of his Test cricket. He is the third bowler to do so in 2024 after Shamar Joseph and Tshep Moreki. This is the first time in Test history that three bowlers have achieved this feat in one calendar year.
