It’s a shame that one of the best movies of the year was put so heavily on Netflix but that’s the world we live in. It’s What’s Inside it’s one of those fun, twist-turny flicks that you want to watch again as the record begins to roll. Which is the benefit of being on Netflix, we guess. This movie has such a unique, amazing feel that it’s almost a sin to spoil it so let’s just say it’s kind of Freaky Friday they meet Information. Yes. It works. It’s amazing.
Kaiju no. 8
Sometimes we all just want a TV show about a cute little guy who turns into a super monster and beats the eternal bejesus out of super monsters. Good news then, because Kaiju no. 8The manga’s top-notch cartoons are worth every second of the slow clock. The action is as fun and current as you’d expect, but it’s the honest charm of its protagonist, the aforementioned himbo Kafka Hibino, that makes it so enjoyable to watch.
Chaos
Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, king of the gods? He said enough. The funny and dark Netflix show is an epic tale of magical characters and a modern adaptation of the fairy tale. Unfortunately it wasn’t renewed for a second season, but the first season is a solid story.
Look Back
It was hard work trying to capture the amazing evolution of Chainsaw Man Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga in theaters this year, which can only mean you missed out on what could be one of the highlights. Best movies of 2024. A wonderful and personal meditation on art, and how it draws people together, Look Back uses the magic of theatrical production to provide a short, sharp, and timeless celebration of form, even as it excels at changing the medium in its transition from animation to large-screen animation.
Madam Web
Madam Web It’s not what one would think of as a classic movie, but it’s a challenge one camp is being prepared. Weird, disturbing, funny (mostly in the way it’s put together rather than deliberate) to a different era of high-quality filmmaking, it’s a very silly thing to try to give a watch once. Who’s to say his internet won’t connect with you now, if you missed it at the theater?

Over the years, seeing the name “John Williams” anywhere near the video made it instantly better. And this documentary, which is streaming on Disney +, is like everything rolled into one. It doesn’t just give you stories about where Williams came from and his work, but it breaks down a lot of what he wrote. Movies like Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Parkand many others. Think of it as a super hit song, but like a movie.

Irish writer-director Damien McCarthy’s horror indie won the South and Southwest Audience Award, but flew under the radar despite hitting Shudder in late September with word-of-mouth labeling it one of the year’s best horror films. That is not just fiction. Unusual depends on a blind healer who sells cursed products and uses everything he has to bring down the killer of his sister. Jump scare? Yes. Slow burn? Yes. Pictures you can’t see? Hell yes.
PBS Retro
Launched in 2024, the PBS Retro channel has become a hidden gem on various TV and streaming platforms. It has preferences like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Reading Rainbows. Like the Bob Ross method and on those platforms, it plays a great game if you want to release or show your children programs that think better than they do. Cocomelon. We found this channel on Vizio’s free apps but if you go to PBS.org or the free PBS app you can find a way to get the original shows on your cell phone, tablet, and video recorder.
The Lost Shadow
Director Timo Tjajahnto has been making films on a regular basis since 2012, and his most recent foray was this year. Stray Shadow. With Aurora Ribero’s amazing turn in the lead role and a series of action sequences, it’s worth taking the time to watch on Netflix. Ultraman Rising
There are no high-quality movies about parenting, which Netflix has provided. Ultraman Rising a unique way of identifying oneself among people. It plays very well on parenting, but it’s all reinvented through the skill of its hero Ken Sato using his powers to raise a monster child and what it looks like.
