Former Pakistan cricket team player The Danish Canaries he spoke about the hybrid model being used for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said the Pakistan Cricket Board got a ‘lollipop’ of the Women’s World Cup by accepting the two-nation formula for the tournament.
The issue of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is finally settled as the tournament will be played in a hybrid model. Apart from the games in India and one semi-final, all other games at the event will be held in Pakistan across three venues.
The games in India, along with one semi-final, will be played in Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Also, if Rohit Sharma-led side reaches the finals of the tournament, then the summit clash will be played in Dubai, and if India fails to reach the finals, then it will be played in Pakistan.
To accommodate the hybrid model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan has been told not to visit India for ICC events until 2027. Also, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been awarded the hosting rights for the upcoming Women’s World Cup.

Speaking about the whole saga, Dane Kaneria feels that the BCCI has found itself in a win-win situation. He called people in Pakistan illiterate and said they were given lollipops. He also hoped that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy would go smoothly because of the situation in Pakistan. Speaking to IANS, he said:
“BCCI has found itself in a win-win situation. Here in Pakistan I also hear people saying ‘we fought and won this’ but they are illiterate. They got the ‘lollipop’ of the Women’s World Cup. From the beginning I felt that the hybrid model was the only solution because in this situation there is no other option.
“Pakistan has said that they will not go to India to play, but only time will tell. The country is currently facing a volatile situation. If anything happens with the other side teamswhat will happen then? The entire tournament could be moved to Dubai. Everyone has family concerns and we should respect that. Given the current situation, let’s hope that the tournament will go smoothly under the hybrid model.”

Denmark’s Kaneria further added that if India and Pakistan reach the final, there will be other problems. The former cricketer emphasized that the PCB should ensure that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is conducted smoothly. He believes that if something happens, the entire tournament will be taken to Dubai. He added:
“It’s interesting that if both India and Pakistan reach the final, then it will have to be played in Dubai, won’t it? That will raise another question: if you can play the final in Dubai, then what’s the problem with playing the matches in India?
“Looking at the circumstances, they have to ensure that the situation in Pakistan remains stable. Teams come here and play matches. It should not happen that other teams raise questions and the entire tournament will be held in Dubai.”

Dane Kaneria also feels that the match between India and Pakistan will have a lot of spectators as, according to him, fans will come to see Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.
He concluded by saying that if the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is successfully organized, it will boost Pakistan cricket. He added:
“The whole stadium and even the roads would be packed with people. Because people adore Rohit (Sharma), Virat (Kohli) and (Jasprit) Bumrah. The younger generation emulates those players,”
“International cricket has already revived in Pakistan. Now Pakistan should focus on the Champions Trophy instead of other things. If this tournament turns out to be successful, it will be of great benefit to Pakistan cricket and the youth. It will boost Pakistan cricket even more , but there is still a long way to go.”
