Since the release of iOS 18.2 on December 11ChatGPT integration has become an important part of Apple Intelligence. As long as you have a recent iPhone, iPad or Mac, you can connect to the OpenAI chatbot from your device, without needing to go through the ChatGPT app or web client.
ChatGPT is an AI chat engine developed by OpenAI and powered by deep learning machine learning. In addition to being able to interact with people using natural language, ChatGPT can search the Internet, solve complex math and writing problems, and create text, images and audio. As of this writing, the latest version of ChatGPT has been installed on the OpenAI versions of GPT-4o and 4o mini.
In June 2024, Apple announced that it was integration with OpenAI integrate ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence. While some of the ChatGPT signatures are available directly within iOS, iPadOS and macOS, many, such as Advanced Voice Mode, can be accessed through the ChatGPT app or the OpenAI website.
On the iPhone, ChatGPT is mainly available in three stages. First, Siri can turn to ChatGPT to answer your questions. Sometimes Apple’s digital assistant confirms that ChatGPT can help you better, it will ask you for permission to share your content with OpenAI. You can also use ChatGPT to detect locations and objects through iPhone 16’s Camera Control menu.
Finally, you can access ChatGPT support when using Apple’s “Text Tools”. Basically, any time you’re typing with the iPhone’s built-in keyboard, including first-party apps like Notes, Mail and Messages, ChatGPT can help you type. Finding this can be difficult, here’s how to find it:
Long press on a text field to bring up the iOS 18 text selection tool.
Click Writing Tools. You may need to click the arrow icon for the option to appear.
Choose Write it down.
Click Register with ChatGPTand write quickly explaining what you want ChatGPT to write for you.
No, an OpenAI account is not required to use ChatGPT on iPhone. However, if you have a paid subscription, you can use the ChatGPT feature on your device regularly. Logging in to your account will also save any requests to your ChatGPT profile.
If your iPhone hasn’t prompted you to turn on ChatGPT before, you can turn it on manually by following these steps:
Go to Favorites.
Click Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Click ChatGPTthen choose Sit down.
Press or Start ChatGPT or Use ChatGPT with an Account. Select the latter if you have an OpenAI account.
