Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe needs to improve his club’s position in the Premier League and to that end he is expected to work alongside sporting director Paul Mitchell on January deals, including for the injured 30-year-old.

Clearly, Howe feels that Krafth is offering something he can’t get elsewhere, and it is understood that he personally approved any deal.
It is a clear message to the other members of the team that the manager has not forgotten him and it must be argued that a new contract would not have been offered if the player was expected to just wait for his chance here and there.
Competing for places is obviously what all football club managers crave, and by extending Krafth’s contract, that is likely to be exactly what Howe will achieve.
