Leeds United have said £7.5m will seal the deal for Alvyn Sanches

Leeds United are actively looking to strengthen their squad as the January transfer window approaches.

The Yorkshire side are in a desirable position, sitting third in the Championship table with a game to go, just two points behind second-placed Burnley and three points behind leaders Sheffield United.

With promotion to the Premier League firmly in sight, the Whites are determined to maintain their momentum in the second half of the campaign. In order to achieve this goal, Daniel Farke’s team is particularly targeting reinforcements in the number 10 position.

Recent reports have linked promising FC Lausanne-Sport talent, Alvyn Sancheswho is currently showing his skills in the Swiss Super League with a move to Leeds United.

However, the pursuit of Sanches has attracted more suitors. According to Corriere dello SportPremier League side Newcastle United have joined the race, along with Italian sides Lazio and Fiorentina. The 21-year-old’s price tag is reportedly set at around £7.5m.

Sanches, who came out of Lausanne-Sport’s youth academy, marked his commitment to the club by signing his first professional contract in November 2020. His impressive development led to a contract extension in 2022, securing his services until 2026.

The attacking midfielder is enjoying an outstanding season, demonstrating his power with an impressive tally of 9 goals and 3 assists in 21 games in all competitions, taking his club tally to 23 goals and 10 assists.

Despite reports suggesting Lausanne could be open to a sale, recent quotes suggest Sanches does not want to change clubs in the middle of the season in January.

While Daniel Farke has relied on Brenden Aaronson in attacking midfield recently, the German tactician is keen to secure a more consistent player in this key role to improve the team’s attacking abilities.

The coming weeks will reveal whether Leeds can successfully manage competition from other interested parties and convince Sanches to join their Championship campaign with Premier League football prospects.
