Hyundai will offer its EV customers free NACS adapters starting next year

Hyundai on to give select EV buyers for a free CCS to NACS (North American Charging Standard) adapter to charge the latest models at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. This will allow owners to charge CCS-port Hyundai models at Tesla’s 20,000-strong Supercharger network, when deliveries begin in Q1 2025.

Hyundai is offering a free adapter to owners of 2024 and older Kona Electric, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Ioniq hatchback models, along with 2025 Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5N, Kona Electric Genesis EVs. You can get a free adapter through MyHyundai owner page. The adapters will be given to anyone who bought a Hyundai EV before January 31, 2025. Sibling brand Kia is also offering free NACS adapters to select customers starting next year, with a full list of supported models expected to arrive soon.

An engineer joins Ford by providing value to users, and other developers may soon do the same. It is because the US government recently he announced that NACS is becoming an open industry standard that can be widely used in charging networks across the region.

Future models will not need an adapter, as Hyundai has joined many automakers in converting its charging ports to NACS. That will start with the 2025 Ioniq 5, which will have access to a Tesla Supercharger once it ships, according to Tesla. Older CCS models don’t have the option yet, but Tesla may make it available once the adapter ships.

This issue is important because Hyundai recently became the second largest seller of EVs in North America next to Tesla. The company sells four models: the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5N crossovers, the Ioniq 6 sedan and the Kona Electric SUV. Kia, meanwhile, offers the EV6 crossover, the EV9 SUV and the Niro EV.
