A Taliban government official said airstrikes launched by Pakistan in Afghanistan on Tuesday killed 46 people, including women and children, he said. The Associated Press.
Hamdullah Fitrat, a deputy spokesman for the Afghan government, said the strikes affected four locations in Barmal district.
Pakistani security officials told the AP that their mission was to kill insurgents and bomb a training facility.
Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry in the capital Kabul said the nation “will not accept the violation of the country’s territory under any circumstances, and the country is ready to defend its independence and its territory.”
The statement declared Pakistan’s actions “irresponsible” and said there would be further “consequences”.
The Foreign Office also said the Pakistani strikes were designed to “create mistrust in relations between the two countries”.
While Pakistani officials did not directly respond to the claims, Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, was on the ground in Kabul to discuss a range of issues ahead of the airstrike.
Pakistan’s leaders blame the Taliban for a recent surge in militant attacks inside their borders and have responded with strikes in Afghanistan.
The Taliban have denied these reports.
