The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office has closed its investigation into alleged allegations of sexual assault against Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe. According to reports from his home country of France (via El Nacional), the charges were dropped due to “insufficient evidence”.
Back in October, during the international break, Mbappe was in Sweden, after being left out of the French national team due to fitness issues. He spent some time in Stockholm, where the rape allegedly took place in the hotel where the 25-year-old was allegedly staying.
Despite numerous reports directly linking Kylian Mbappe to the situation, the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office has not confirmed his involvement. The 25-year-old took to social media after reports of his involvement surfaced, calling it “fake news”:
“FAKE NEWS!!!! ❌❌❌ It’s becoming so predictable, right before the hearing as if by chance 😉”
However, the case has now come to an end, with prosecutor Marina Chirakova stating in a letter (via El Nacional):
“There is not enough evidence to continue the procedure… During the investigation, a person was identified who is reasonably suspected of having committed rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but I believe that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the procedure, and therefore, the investigation is closed.”
While Mbappe was in Stockholm, France beat Israel 4-1 in their League of Nations group stage match on October 10 in Bozsik Arena. Blues this was followed by a 2–1 win over Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium on 14 October.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared an update on Kylian Mbappe after the forward was forced off the pitch with an injury in midweek. The 25-year-old led the way in their 3-2 Champions League win over Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on 10 December.
Mbappe scored in the game, opening his 12th goal of the season in the 10th minute. However, in the 35th minute he had to leave the field after falling on the field.
After the game, Ancelotti said (via GOAL):
“(Mbappe) has tension, some discomfort in his thigh. We’ll have to see. It doesn’t look serious, but I don’t know, we’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t sprint. It was bothering him so we had to replace him.”
Without Kylian Mbappe, White people continued in great form, saw off the Italian giant and took home all three points. Madrid is now in 20th place UEFA Champions League table, with three wins and three losses from six games.
