The year 2024 began with questions about the Kansas City Chiefs and their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
The upset loss on Christmas Day to their division rivals Las Vegas Raiders was their fifth in eight games, leaving the reigning champions at 9-6 on the year. Snap a 15-game winning streak, including the playoffs, a fourth Super Bowl appearance – and third title – in five seasons, plus a 9-0 start to their 2024 campaign.
Mahomes missed out on third-place MVP Lamar Jackson last year, while he will be overlooked again in 2024, with Saquon Barkley, Josh Allen and possibly Jackson again favored over Mahomes, who barely cracked the top 10. league in both passing and touchdowns among running backs this season.
BUT, this is a damaged Chiefs quarterback limping along without his usual array of offensive weapons to aid Mahomes’ genius — and he still rallied to a ninth straight division title, surpassed only by the great New England Patriots dynasty (2009-2019) 21. century.
In addition, Mahomes is the best in the key. Just like when he overcame Kansas City’s losing streak late last year. They went on a run in January and, losing by 10 points to the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, he carried his team on his shoulders to a second straight championship.
Now, Mahomes and the Chiefs are aiming for a three-peat, something never before accomplished in NFL history. Write it off at your own risk.
