The House Democrat who chairs the party’s campaign committee says he wants to “build on” the “things we did well” in the 2024 election as he works to win back the House majority in the 2026 legislature.
While the party lost control of the White House and Republicans overturned the Senate majority while maintaining their fragile control of the HouseDemocrats were able to take a small bite out of the GOP congressional majority.
Republicans will hold a minimum 220-215 majority in the next Congress, meaning Democrats need just a three-seat gain in the 2026 midterms to retake the chamber for the first time in four years.

“We’ve won in tough districts, we’ve won across the country,” emphasized Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Washington state representative Suzan DelBene in a recent Fox News Digital interview.
DelBene, who is serving a second consecutive term leading the party’s campaign committee, said the 2024 accomplishments are “a great example of what we need to continue to build on going into 2026.”

“Number one, to have great, independent-minded candidates focused on the needs of their communities,” DelBene said. “These candidates and their voices were very important in this election.”
DelBene said “making sure they (candidates) have the resources to get information out to voters and continue to directly address the issues that are most important to their communities, keep costs down and make sure there’s economic opportunities”. top priorities

with President-elect Trump Returning to the White House next month, with the GOP in control of both houses of Congress, DelBene said Republicans “will be held accountable for what they do in this country and the impact it has on working families.”
“We will hold them accountable for their votes and the actions they take, especially if they are not supporting working families,” he stressed. “I think people want governance to work. So if Republicans aren’t willing to work bipartisanly to get things done, that’s going to be a key part of the 2026 election as well.”
The ruling party traditionally takes a punch at the next one congressional electionswhich means Democrats will have historic tailwinds at their backs.
Looking at the 2026 map, DelBene said Democrats will have “opportunities across the country.”
And he said the DCCC’s job is to “reach voters where they are and make sure they get accurate information about where our candidates stand.”
