Dan Da Dan’s Dub Actors Feel the Love

As 2024 draws to a close, It’s Da Dan it has become the talk of shonen town. From his dual chemistry leads to his the opening banger is his styleScience Saru based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s supernatural romcom has captured the hearts and minds of anime fans, who have been tuning in every week to see what Momo Ayase is up to. Okarun will be captured later.

In early December, io9 spoke with Momo and Okarun actors Abby Trott and AJ Beckles, who came to the show through different channels. Beckles was already reading the manga before the trial, while Trott only found out about it through the investigation. They were all impressed, and were so surprised that they booked the sessions – and how many of them were rated as excellent.

“Seeing some of the comments about how other people enjoy the dub, and have switched to it, has been great,” Beckles said. The “sub v. dub” battle has been going on for a long time, but it did It’s Da Dan he avoided the shock due to the huge promotion of his dub, and the actors having the right amount of time to record. This is not always the case with anime, and according to him, this show is good for it: without the preconceived notions surrounding Japanese or English words, viewers have been free to like whatever genre they want.

While audiences have sung the show’s praises for months now, some viewers were thrown off by the second episode of the first episode, where Momo and Okarun found themselves in danger from alien creatures. While Okarun is chased and possessed by Turbo Gogo’s demons, Momo ends up in a difficult situation when she is kidnapped by aliens called Serpo, who strip her to her underwear and plan to steal her reproductive organs. It’s a sudden change, it’s not helped because there are funny jokes like how Serpo called the organs “bananas”.

When asked, the cast readily admitted how “unpleasant” the scene would be to watch, and didn’t fault anyone else for jumping off the show because of it. For Trott, the scene is a pivotal moment for her character, as it is where Momo’s psychokinetic powers come into play. Once she realizes what she’s up to, she’s immediately on the offensive, and several of the season’s biggest weapons have given Momo the ability to excel. his skill—so for him to tap into that power and use it immediately to “kick Serpo’s ass” was satisfying.

“In saying that, we’re not saying that Serpoians are good, they’re different. There’s a lot of changes in this anime, and obviously some difficult parts to get through,” said Trott. “But the good times outweigh the hard times.”

Beckles was of the same opinion, and pointed to Momo’s use of her grandmother’s advice and unexpected help from Turbo Granny as examples of how women help each other throughout the story. As a manga reader, he indicated that things will improve going forward, saying that viewers will “see, as the show continues, that it takes those moments seriously.” The two actors also highlighted Okarun’s presence and “healthy perspective” on women, which allows the show to set him apart from the more disturbing Serpoias.

After its fourth episode, Momo and Okarun’s slow love begins to take shape. Their growing relationship is obvious because other shonen often have romance as an add-on to their stories rather than the centerpiece. Tatsu famously revealed this by throwing Dan Da Dan, her editor Shihei Lin encouraged her to read shoujo (or “little girl”) manga, which focuses on personal and romantic relationships. Without Lin’s advice, the series probably wouldn’t be what it is today, and it would have lacked interest and excitement around it. The audience loves the good love storyand knows when it doesn’t hit. But because they are well-written and clear, and may not be strange to others, especially in public – it is difficult not to doubt Momo and Okarun.

Even when the two are caught by others wild things, their feelings towards each other inform almost everything they do. Learning this was a love story didn’t change the actors’ reaction to the scene, but Trott said that Okarun and Momo’s first argument was a good indication of where things were going. For Beckles, some of his favorite scenes with his character are when Okarun is “just trying to figure out how to talk to a girl for the first time,” or telling Momo how much he has. he cares what he thinks.

Flexibility among the guides is also important in the camp. When it’s time to film, the actors said they like having someone come first, because it allows them to eat each other. Trott said he gets “a lot” from his leads, especially since Okarun often “evokes a certain response” from Momo that prompts him to adjust his responses accordingly. The same goes for Beckles, who admitted that intimate, romantic scenes can get to him because Okarun likes to speak from the heart.

Where Momo’s encounter with Serpo helps him to activate his magical powers, Okarun’s encounter with Turbo Granny leaves him with a portion of the spirit’s powers, which allows him to transform into a faster, smoother, and more. a classic emo genre about himself. As Beckles explained, getting Okarun’s default voice — which he uses when he’s talking too much or in Turbo mode — took several recording sessions. In those early episodes, Okarun was “always yelling or whispering, and there was a lot of back-and-forth” to set the scene. Beckles’ famous voice director, Alex von David for guiding him to make his voice “silly or fun. Alex has the whole vision, and he knows where Okarun is going. I trusted him a lot in the difficult situations, but it’s good if it’s difficult to try to do things in the right way.”

One problem he mentioned was the fourth part “Goodbye” event between Okarun and Momo, which he called one of the “annoying moments” to write. Having entered the house that day, it was difficult to imagine what Okarun was thinking, how Trott was doing during his recording session, and the meaning of the word “goodbye” whatever is said. “Once (Abby) drew it the next day,” she said, “the pieces of the picture started to connect. I could have messed with her mind, and it could have been that. I don’t think we would have read as interestingly as a child without her saying ‘See you!'”

In our case, Beckles and Trott gave a shout out to several others who have made it It’s Dan Da Dan change a victory. Along with the fans and von David, he gave warm praise to his co-stars Lisa Reimold (Aira) and Barbara Goodson (Turbo Granny), as well as his Japanese co-stars Natuski Hanae and Shion Wakayama. (Trott called Wakayama’s Momo one of his favorite anime series, and “the best representation” of Japan’s gyaru culture.) The journey has been fun for both of them, so it’s good to hear them again on Netflix and Crunchyroll and second season in July 2025.

And while he couldn’t say anything about what will happen next, Beckles joked that what was left behind “pales in comparison to what the shows go after.”
