Zentry will bring its massively multiplayer online game Ragnarok Landverse Sky Mavis‘ Ronin Web3 network.
The deal will combine Zentry’s services in Web3 games with Ronin’s distribution of blockchain titles.
Ragnarok Landverse continues the legacy of the classic MMORPG that has attracted over 100 million players worldwide since its inception and generated over $2 billion in revenue over the past two decades.
Zentry said it is staying true to its deep gameplay while still giving players a chance to discover and experience it. And it said the arrival of Ragnarok on the chain will pave the way for millions of gamers to join the Web3 ecosystem, connecting high-quality gaming with digital ownership and social engagement.
Zentry is creating “gameplay for the collaborative Play Economy.” His high-tech game studio, Maxion, has an official partnership with Gravity, the publisher of Ragnarok. Ragnarok Landverse is the Web3 version of the beloved game, best known for its gameplay that invites players to embark on adventures, face off against powerful monsters, and connect with an online community.
“Our partnership with Sky Mavis continues to bring Ragnarok Landverse to Ronin,” Jarindr Thitadilaka, CEO of Zentry, said in a statement. “Together, we’re paving the way for the world’s best gaming IPs to transition to Web3. By focusing on gameplay, global accessibility, and blockchain-powered ownership—without relying on incentives like tokens—Ragnarok Landverse shows that Web3 gaming success is possible through in the brand itself. We are fully committed to making our vision of 50 million users worldwide a reality.”
Ragnarok Online was launched in 2002 by South Korean developer Gravity and has become one of the most successful MMORPGs in gaming history. Inspired by the Korean manhwa series Ragnarök by Lee Myung-jin, the game’s unique combination of Norse mythology, fantasy elements, and advanced 2D characters fighting in a rich 3D environment has captivated players around the world.
Since its inception, Ragnarok has become a cult classic, especially in Southeast Asia, where it remains one of the most popular IPs of all time. Its success helped kick off the MMORPG boom of the early 2000s, including titles like World of Warcraft and Runescape. Over the past two decades, Ragnarok Online has garnered over 100 million players worldwide and generated over $2 billion in lifetime revenue.
What set Ragnarok apart was its ability to encourage social interaction. Players formed close-knit groups through factions, cooperative raids, and competitive PvP modes such as Battle of the Emperium. Its advanced personnel system offered different roles (such as Knights, Priests, and Assassins) each with unique abilities and ways to progress, allowing for more gameplay.
Beyond gaming, Ragnarok introduced the concept of a player-driven economy. Vibrant secondary markets emerged where players traded in-game items, zeny (in-game currency), and rare equipment. However, these markets operated informally, relying on third-party platforms or face-to-face trading, highlighting the need for better infrastructure to support a thriving economy.
Over the years, Ragnarok has expanded its reach with spin-offs such as Ragnarok DS, Ragnarok M: Eternal Love, and Ragnarok Origin, bringing the franchise to new platforms and audiences. Even today, active servers and private servers owned by fans preserve the game’s legacy.
Now, with the launch of Ragnarok Landverse on Ronin, the game is entering a new chapter. By incorporating blockchain technology, Ragnarok solves one of its long-standing challenges: establishing and empowering the secondary markets that have become part of its DNA. Players can now secure and sell in-game merchandise while maintaining the excitement, storytelling, and team spirit that has defined Ragnarok for two decades.
With its soft launch that attracted 400,000 players and generated $15 million from gaming products and NFT sales within one year, the game has the potential to unite fans around the world and invite a new generation of players into its universe, Zentry said.
Ronin’s reputation as the fastest-growing blockchain, combined with its ecosystem of well-known Web3 names such as Axie Infinity and Pixels, makes it the perfect home for Ragnarok Landverse to reach the engaged audience, Zentry said.
With more than 4.7 million monthly users and three million daily transactions, Ronin ensures that the game will be integrated with the blockchain platform to support Zentry’s vision of growing millions of players around the world, Zentry said.
“Being a Ragnarok player myself, I understand the great passion and connection the game creates around the world,” said Trung Nguyen, CEO of Sky Mavis, in a statement. “Zentry’s Ragnarok Landverse – with massive multiplayer and $15 million in NFT sales – proves that Web3 games are creating experiences that players love, enabling players to discover and collect. It’s Ronin’s proven track record that powers Web3 hits and our goal bringing financial freedom to everyone, starting with players, we’re excited to help expand Ragnarok Landverse to a larger, more engaged audience.”
The partnership between Zentry and Ronin extends beyond the Ragnarok Landverse, including Zentry becoming a guarantee node in the Ronin network. In addition, Zentry recently boarded Ronin for Nexus Season 1, Zentry’s player portal for humans and AI assistants to support game environments.
Players can pre-register for Ragnarok Landverse starting today and join in Q1 2025.
Ronin is a blockchain-based EVM purpose-built for gaming. Developed by Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity, Web3’s breakout game with more than $1.3B in revenue, Ronin and blockchain are guaranteed to expand one game to millions of users every day, processing more than $4 billion in NFT volume to date. Zentry has 70 employees, and has raised $150 million to date.
In an email to GamesBeat, Thitadilaka at Zentry said of the game’s inspiration, “Ragnarok is one of the most popular game IPs in Southeast Asia and remains a huge hit with millions of players who grew up with it. It’s the same idea of growth and impact as bringing something like Runescape or World of Warcraft on-chain. What makes Ragnarok so special is not the standard game and the player-driven marketplace that grew around it.”
Thitadilaka added, “Players created all of the game’s wealth, even though the tools to support ownership didn’t exist at the time. By bringing Ragnarok to the chain, we saw an opportunity to address these challenges through Web3’s technology – empowering players to own assets and sell products seamlessly while preserving what made the game unique.” very beloved. This is to honor his legacy and extend it to the next generation of players.”
