Mohamed Salah scored twice in eight minutes and set up two more goals as Liverpool beat Tottenham to move within four points at the top of the Premier League and leave Spurs in the bottom half.
Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister scored first-half headers before Dominik Szoboszlai fired home from Salah’s pass on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors a two-goal lead after James Maddison responded from the edge of the box.
Salah, who fired a shot against the crossbar in the goalless scoreline, then scored twice from close range before Dejan Kulusevski volleyed home a Spurs side who have taken one point from their last four domestic league games.

Dominic Solanke’s finish gave the home striker his third goal in three games, only for Diaz to head home Salah’s cross to start an extravagantly entertaining contest.
Liverpool will top the table at Christmas for the first time since 2020/21, although the 2019/20 season is the only occasion in the last seven when they were in that position and won the title.

One of Liverpool’s 24 attempts on goal would have been a wake-up call for Tottenham fans after 18 minutes, when Salah hit the box as part of a dominant start from Arne Slott.
Diaz then scored his sixth goal of the season with a superb pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, sparking another threatening play that put Spurs in the kind of embarrassment they have only experienced once before.

Tottenham last conceded six goals at home in the Premier League in a 6-1 defeat by Chelsea in December 1997, but poor performances have become their signature under Postecoglou.

Manchester United scored three times as they threatened to bounce back from a Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, 11 days after Chelsea won 4-3 in the league there.
Spurs’ defensive frailties look unsustainable and their tally of two goals more than Liverpool and second-placed Chelsea is little consolation after results like this.
Come for Luis DÃaz’s brilliant header, stay for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross 💥

They are eight points behind fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and nine above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to the City Ground on Thursday (15:00 GMT).
Liverpool are in action at 8pm on the same day, hosting fourth-placed Leicester City, who lost 3-0 at home to third-placed Wolves on Sunday.
