With the US TikTok ban expected to take effect within a month, President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday that he wants the app to remain, according to Reuters.
“We have to start thinking because, you know, we went to TikTok, and we had a great response with billions and billions and billions of views,” Trump told supporters at an event in Phoenix, Arizona. “They brought me a chart, and it was a drawing, and it was very beautiful to look at, and when I looked at it, I said, ‘Maybe we should keep this sucker for a while.’
Trumpet he is said to have met the CEO of TikTok Monday and said later that he has a “warm spot” in his heart for the program.
President Joe Biden signed the bill in April which requires TikTok’s parent company ByteDance to sell the short-form video app by January 19 next year (one day before Trump takes office) or see it banned.
ByteDance is fighting the bill in court, and The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the arguments on January 10.
