Mohamed Salah compared Liverpool’s win at Tottenham to Manchester City’s defeat by Spurs after scoring twice to set a new Premier League record on Sunday.
The Reds moved four points clear at the top of the table with a 6-3 win thanks to two goals and two assists from Salah, who is the first player in Premier League history to reach 10 goals and 10 assists by Christmas.
The result was the latest lavishly entertaining game involving eleventh-placed Tottenham, with manager Ange Postecoglou’s risk-taking attacking style of football leading to a 4-0 win at City on 23 November.

“We expected the way they played: they open the game and enjoy the football,” Salah told Sky Sports, speaking after his 26th direct goal of the season – nine ahead of next closest rival Cole Palmer of Chelsea.
βYou always have to be in the game; it’s really hard, physically and mentally. They have a way of playing and they don’t change it much.
βCity (faced them) and struggled, as did some other teams. I’m really glad we won because they play a very intense game.”
“If you’re Chelsea or Arsenal, you’re looking at that thinking, this is going to take a while” π

Salah was less than impressed with Liverpool’s defense after they conceded more than one goal in the third game of their last five.
They have now conceded 16 goals in 16 league games and are level with third-placed Arsenal for the fewest goals conceded, although the Gunners have played a game more.
“Defensively, we have to improve as a team,” Salah warned. “Conceding three goals is quite difficult. (Defender) Virgil (van Dijk) will talk about it better than me. The result is quite good and we hope to continue.”

The second of Salah’s goals, which came within eight minutes of the second half, moved the Egypt icon ahead of Billy Liddell as Liverpool’s fourth all-time goalscorer.
He looks set to reach the 13 goals needed to overtake third-placed Gordon Hodgson this season, but his chances of getting the 57 needed to surpass Roger Hunt’s total will depend on whether he extends his contract before it expires at the end of the campaign.
Ian Rush is 117 goals ahead of Salah, so the 32-year-old may have to stay at Anfield for another five years to overtake the Wales legend’s record of 346 if he averages 25 goals last season and stays fit to be first-choice.
